Congregation B’nai Sholom-Beth David (CBS/BD) has numerous working committees. Committee members include synagogue members, officers and trustees, each of whom express an interest in or have an expertise in a particular area. If interested in joining a committee, please contact our main office. Below is a sampling of our various committees:
Adult Education: Adult Education’s goal is to bring interesting speakers to CBS/BD to lecture the congregation on various topics related to the Jewish religion and Jewish community.
Catering: Catering oversees our caterer, New Star Caterers and serves as a conduit between the caterer and the Board of Trustees.
Cemetery: CBS/BD maintains a cemetery and accords all members burial privileges, subject to the rules and regulations of our Constitution. The Cemetery Committee is charged with overseeing the cemetery’s administration, burial regulations, interments, rituals in accordance with the requirements of Conservative Judiasm, maintenance and upkeep of the cemetery property and all other business.
College Commission: CBS/BD makes every effort to keep in touch with our member’s children who are attending college. The College Commission Committee compiles our college students information and sends temple updates and “care packages” throughout the school year. Rabbi Diamond also enjoys continuing his relationship with them.
Education: The Education Committee is the Board of Education for our Hebrew School, the Jewish Learning Center. It works with the school’s Principal on curriculum and staffing.
Fundraising: The Fundraising Committee is charged with the development, organization and running of various events throughout the calendar year.
House: The House Committee is responsible to administer/supervise all matters, maintenance and functions related to all properties owned by the Congregation.
Israel Affairs: The Israel Affairs Committee is charged with keeping the congregation up to date with the latest events in Israel, most often via e-mail, as well as arranging programs (usually held at CBS/BD) on various topics related to the State of Israel. The committee also coordinates our annual participation in the Salute to Israel Parade down 5th Avenue in New York City.
Membership: The Membership Committee is the main contact between perspective members and the synagogue. The Committee also creates advertising and events to grow and maintain our base of members.
Religious: The Religious Committee is responsible for coordinating the High Holiday services, as well as all aspects of the services that take place year-round at our CBS/BD. We pride ourselves on having morning and evening services every day of the week.
